IRIS Affiliate Jeb Byers Elected to Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

James E. (Jeb) Byers, Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Ecology, was recently elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, an honor given to individuals who have made significant contributions to their field.

Byers received this award for his, “distinguished contributions to the field of ecology, particularly in invasion biology, parasite ecology, ecosystem engineers, and range boundaries in marine environments, as well as excellence in teaching.”

While Byers’ research interests are wide ranging, some of his recent IRIS research examines how organisms act as engineers of their own ecosystems.

“AAAS is proud to bestow the honor of AAAS Fellow to some of today’s brightest minds who are integral to forging our path into the future. We celebrate these distinguished individuals for their invaluable contributions to the scientific enterprise,” said Dr. Sudip Parikh, AAAS chief executive officer, of the honor.
