We’re proud to announce that the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems was recently named in the University of Georgia’s 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Report.
The report summarized the many sustainability-oriented initiatives at the University of Georgia.
“The University of Georgia is committed to tackling the world’s grand challenges, from combatting poverty, hunger, and infectious disease to fostering innovation, economic growth, and a more secure future for all,” reads the introduction of the report. “The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals are a call to action that align with the defining commitments of the University of Georgia.”
IRIS was specifically called out for its contributions to innovative, sustainable infrastructure, and was highlighted under goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
“The Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) advances the integration of natural and conventional infrastructure systems to strengthen society’s long term resilience to flooding, sea level rise, drought, and other disruptions,” the report said of IRIS. “Through collaborative partnerships, IRIS empowers communities and businesses to discover wise infrastructure solutions that deliver a broad array of social, economic, and environmental benefits.”
