IRIS is part of the Urban Water Innovation Network (UWIN), a consortium of academic institutions and key partners across the U.S. UWIN includes research, engagement and educational programs that address challenges that threaten urban water systems. The mission of UWIN is to create technological, institutional, and management solutions to help communities increase the resilience of their water systems and enhance preparedness for responding to water crises. IRIS is developing novel techniques for analyzing and designing urban drainage and floodplain systems for increased resilience to extreme events, and how floodplain-greenspace networks that improve water quality, increase biodiversity, moderate temperatures, cleanse air, and enhance human well-being.
