Briefly stated, NbS are actions or interventions taken to conserve, restore, or engineer nature for the benefit of people and nature. The White House defines NbS as “Actions to protect, sustainably manage, or restore natural or modified ecosystems to address societal challenges, simultaneously providing benefits for people and the environment.”
Nature-based Solutions can take many forms and provide a diversity of functions. Examples may include:

Restored floodplains that reduce risks to people and property while providing habitat for wildlife and recreational value for communities.
