Multiple IRIS affiliates were included in the list of 10 university-wide projects that have been awarded 2023 Presidential Interdisciplinary Seed Grants by the University of Georgia. The program was launched in 2017 through a partnership between the offices of Research and Public Service and Outreach. Each of the projects was selected from 70 proposals and reflect a commitment of $1 million from UGA President Jere. W. Morehead.
This year, two different tracks of projects were selected: New Frontiers, for supporting early-stage research, and Cluster Engagement, devoted to addressing themes of the 10 interdisciplinary clusters of the Presidential Interdisciplinary Faculty Hiring Initiative in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
IRIS-affiliated awardees included:
Marshall Shepherd, Brian Bledsoe and Christina Fuller: “Rubber Modified Asphalt – A Potential Urban Heat Island Mitigation Strategy.”
Shana Jones: “Leading Georgia’s E-Mobility Innovation: Informing Research and Decision-Making.”
Mark Risse: “Turning Blue to Green: Economic Development and Investment from Aquaculture in Georgia.”
Kyle Johnsen: “Healing and Empowerment after Limb Loss in XR.”
