
We are thrilled you are considering joining us for UGA’s Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) 3.5-day course on Sustainable Sediment Management in Athens, Georgia – June 3rd – 6th, 2025, led by IRIS professors Ram Mohan, Brian Bledsoe and Todd Bridges. What will the course be about?
The short course will explore the principles and practices of sustainable sediment management in coastal and riverine contexts through in-depth presentations on concepts; engineering and operational practices; methods, modeling, and technologies; and detailed case study examinations of design, construction methods and projects, all taught by the leading experts from academia, industry, contractors, government, and non-profits. Topics will include sediment and dredging processes, beneficial use, Nature-based Solutions, strategic sediment placement, among many others. Multiple small-group breakout sessions will be used to foster dialogue, problem-solving, and application.

Are you offering continuing education units?
Yes. A certificate and continuing education units (~3.0 CEUs) are earned at the successful completion of the course.
How much does the course cost?
The course fee is $1,700. Speakers should contact carly.ornstein@uga.edu for a registration code.
Where should I stay?
There are many hotel options in Athens, GA. We highly recommend attendees stay at the conference hotel. Note: Reserving a hotel room does not register you for the conference. Additionally, registering for this conference does not secure a hotel reservation and must be done separately if a hotel stay is required.

How do I get to the conference?
We encourage attendees to stay at the conference hotel. Parking is included for those staying at the Georgia Center.
Please note that there will not be any daily transportation provided from the area hotels to the conference, though there are many Ubers/Lyfts in town. If you do not stay at the Georgia Center, you will be responsible for your daily commute and on-campus parking. Public parking is limited on campus and requires a fee, and spaces are not guaranteed. How do I get to the Oconee Dam Removal Case Study and Field Trip to Whitehall Forest (and the informal social) on Monday, June 2nd?
We are pleased to provide transportation for those joining the field trip on Monday afternoon. Buses will leave the Georgia Center for Whitehall Forest at 2:30 PM and return to the Georgia Center following the conclusion of the informal social at Flinchum’s Phoenix (same property as field trip) at 6:30 PM. If you registered for this event, keep an eye on your email for more instructions.

What is the cancellation policy?
A cancellation received by 5:00 p.m. ET on or before Friday, May 2, 2025, will be refunded, minus a $35 processing fee. No refunds will be issued thereafter. To change or cancel your registration, call (706) 542-7493, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET. If an event is cancelled for any reason, the UGA Center for Continuing Education & Hotel will not be responsible for any charges related to travel. If you need to cancel after Friday, May 2, it may be possible to transfer your registration to another colleague.
