We are thrilled you are considering joining us for UGA’s Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) course on Sustainable Sediment Management in Athens, Georgia, led by IRIS professors Ram Mohan, Brian Bledsoe and Todd Bridges.
We’ve received a lot of positive interest and feedback regarding the Sustainable Sediment Management Short Course. However, travel and other constraints currently pose challenges for many organizations. For this reason, we’ve decided to postpone the short course until the fall of 2025 in order to provide for the broad participation needed to make comprehensive progress (more to follow on the date). In the meantime, due to strong interest in starting a conversation about innovation in sediment management, we’ll be organizing a series of virtual, one-hour conversations on select topics over the coming months.
Please let us know what you would like to talk about at these virtual meetings at the form below!
What will the course be about?
The short course will explore the principles and practices of sustainable sediment management in coastal and riverine contexts through in-depth presentations on concepts; engineering and operational practices; methods, modeling, and technologies; and detailed case study examinations of design, construction methods and projects, all taught by the leading experts from academia, industry, contractors, government, and non-profits. Topics will include sediment and dredging processes, beneficial use, Nature-based Solutions, strategic sediment placement, among many others. Multiple small-group breakout sessions will be used to foster dialogue, problem-solving, and application.
