Erin Lipp earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from New College of Florida in Sarasota in 1994 and her Ph.D. in marine science from the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg in 1999. In 2000, she left Florida for a postdoc position at the Center of Marine Biotechnology in Baltimore (now the University of Maryland Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology). She is a full professor in the Department of Environmental Health Science in the College of Public Health. In addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental microbiology, she along with her lab of excellent graduate students, conduct research on issues related to microbial ecology, waterborne pathogens, and ocean health. She is also the graduate coordinator for the department.
